Playa La Granadella:

The Spanish have already voted Playa La Granadella “Spain’s best beach” twice in a row. And it’s not surprising, because it is situated in a picturesque, horseshoe-shaped bay with clear, turquoise water surrounded by craggy rocks and pine trees. It’s a pretty as a picture! The beach has flown the Blue Flag in 1987, which is awarded in recognition of the high-quality, clean and safe swimming water. The beach consists of beautiful, white round pebbles and shingle but swimmers only need to enter the water for a few metres to feel soft sand beneath their feet, making this coast a natural bathing place that’s ideal for divers too. This little bay is protected by steep cliffs, so the water is wonderfully calm and lovely to swim in.

A paradise for snorkelers and divers

This rural bay is the perfect spot for divers and snorkelers who love to admire seagrass fields and colourful fish in crystal clear, blue water. There are several delightful routes for divers, including an easy one that is immediately accessible from the beach and less than 10 metres deep.

A fantastic microclimate

The special microclimate, with its soft sea breezes, makes this one of the best spots along the entire coast, even though the place is surrounded by high cliffs. The refreshing (but never disturbingly strong) wind brings a breath of fresh air in the hot summer months and it keeps the water lovely and cool too.

Cala La Granadella is in the province of Alicante, to the north of the Costa Blanca and to the south of the adorable sea-side resort of Jávea. Many people have called this spot, which emerges suddenly from the slant of the road and which charms all visitors, a hidden gem, and it certainly deserves its reputation. Although it is a shingle beach, it is a favourite, both among sun-lovers and fanatic divers and snorkelers.

Arenal, a sandy beach

Playa del Arenal is a sandy beach - actually, it’s the only sandy beach of the total of 9 at Jávea. But that’s not the only reason why this beach is so popular. This delightful sandy beach is about 480 metres long and some 80 to 140 metres wide. It’s the only sandy beach along Jávea’s magnificent rocky coast and is regarded as the most prominent beach in the area. There are beautiful, waving palm trees for shade and much of the sea here is shallow for a considerable way, so everyone can enjoy a swim here.

The 10 advantages of Arenal’s sandy beach

Playa del Arenal is less than a kilometre from the marina. It is not a remote beach in a cove of outstanding natural beauty - such as Cala Barraca - but is easily accessible from right from the centre of the bay, Bahia de Jávea, and has all you need for a wonderful day at the seaside:

1. Playa del Arenal, Cala La Granadella and Playa La Grava are the three beaches with Blue Flag recognition, awarded for their high quality. The clear, calm water suitable for swimming has much to do with that recognition.

2. Summer or winter, this beach is always clean and tidy.

3. Although Playa del Arenal is perhaps at times the busiest beach of Jávea, it is very wide and so there is plenty of room. It’s an ideal beach for play or walks.

4. The beach has a gradual decline, so the water is extremely suitable for swimming with children. In fact, you can walk a long way into the sea with its pretty views before it gets deeper.

5. As well as swimming, there are other water sports you can do here, ranging from jet-skiing and waterskiing to diving and wind surfing. You can even surf here is there is enough wind.

6. The boulevard is a bustling, friendly place at all times of the day and features a wide range of stylish boutiques, tapas bars and restaurants. There are also some charming beach cafés.

7. Despite the pleasant bustle, there are no high-rise buildings to spoil the view.

8. The boulevard is lovely and lively in the evening too in the summer months, thanks to its many sidewalk cafés and stalls selling souvenirs and artisanal goods.

9 The beach is easy to reach because it has ample parking facilities which are free into the bargain!

10. There are numerous amenities, including ones specifically for children, the elderly and for people with impairments.

Montgó Mountain

This area, measuring 2,117 hectares was awarded the status “parque natural” in 1987 due to its value as a landscape and because of the plants and wildlife that live there. Montgó’s cliffs rise to a height of 753 metres and were shaped by the enormous forces released when two continental plates (the European and the African plates) crashed together. The current shape of the cliff was caused by erosion by the wind, rain, waves and snow. The park covers the area between the tiny, inland village of La Xara to the Mediterranean between the towns of Dénia and Jávea.
